Improved TWAIN import filter and "Acquire image..." Addition
for Macintosh PageMaker 5.0

These new files replace the TWAIN import filter and “Acquire image...” Addition included with Macintosh PageMaker 5.0. Both components have been updated to support HP ScanJet II series scanners. Also, the word “scanner” in the “Acquire image...” Addition's interface has been replaced with “data source” to reflect the Addition’s ability to bring in images from a variety of input devices, including digital cameras and scanners.
>> To install the updated TWAIN import filter and “Acquire image...” Addition:
Copy the “TWAIN Image Import.flt” file to the “Aldus Filters” folder inside the “Aldus” folder in the “System Folder” on your hard drive. Copy the “Acquire Image.add” file to the “Additions” folder inside the “Aldus” folder in the “System Folder” on your hard drive. Click “Yes” if the system asks you whether or not you want to replace existing versions of these files.
To use the “Acquire image…” Addition with PageMaker 5.0, you must increase the amount of memory allocated to PageMaker to at least 4128K. To increase PageMaker’s memory partition, first make sure that PageMaker isn't running. In the Finder, select the PageMaker 5.0 program icon, and choose “Get Info” from the File menu. Then, type a value greater than or equal to 4128K for “Preferred Size” (System 7.1) or “Current size” (System 7.0) or “Application Memory Size (K)” (System 6.07).

Data sources other than the HP DeskScan II for ScanJet II series scanners may not conform fully to the TWAIN standard and will be only partially supported by the “Acquire image…” Addition and TWAIN import filter.
The “Acquire image…” Addition may crash if you press “Cancel” while scanning a very large image. The size of the image that causes a crash depends on the model of the computer on which the “Acquire image…” Addition is being run, but in general use caution with image sizes exceeding 100MB.
A data source’s internal product name must match its file name. For example, HP’s data source is named “DeskScan II,” which is both its file name and its internal product name. Since the “Acquire image” dialog box lists all the available TWAIN sources with their internal product names, you can use that list to verify that the data source file name is identical to the product name. If the names are not identical, go to the Finder, and retype the incorrect data source file name to make it match the product name.
